About Teatro de la Paz (San Luis Potosí)

The Teatro de la Paz, located in the city of San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, is one of the country's four main theaters. This theater is classified as a historical monument by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) for its preservation.

It was built during the Porfiriato period between 1889 and 1894, under the governance of Carlos Díez Gutiérrez, the governor of San Luis Potosí at the time. The theater was inaugurated on December 4, 1894. Throughout its history, the Teatro de la Paz has hosted significant political and cultural events.

The building was designed by architect José Noriega, who incorporated French influences and neoclassical style, with a facade made of pink quarry stone. The interior of the theater has been remodeled twice, between 1944 and 1949, by architect Francisco Cossío. Its inaugural performance was "Lucrezia Borgia," an opera by Gaetano Donizetti.

The Teatro de la Paz showcases a variety of performances, including theater plays, operas, concerts, dance shows, children's spectacles, conferences, and government reports. The dome of the theater was commissioned and made in Paris, France, at the request of President Porfirio Díaz.
